Machine Readable Files (Transparency in Coverage)

In accordance with the Transparency in Coverage Final Rules issued by the U.S. Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and the Treasury, group health plans and health insurance issuers are required to publicly disclose certain healthcare pricing information.

These requirements are designed to promote price transparency and allow consumers, researchers, and regulators to better understand the cost of healthcare services.

What Information is Included

The required machine-readable files (MRFs) include detailed data related to healthcare pricing, such as:

  • In-Network Rates
Negotiated rates between healthcare providers and the insurance carrier for covered services.
  • Out-of-Network Allowed Amounts
Historical data showing what the plan has paid for services provided by out-of-network providers, along with associated billed charges.
  • Prescription Drug Pricing
Information related to negotiated rates and historical pricing for covered prescription medications.

These files are formatted to be read and processed by computer systems, ensuring that large volumes of data can be accessed and analyzed efficiently without manual interpretation.
